WELCOME Stuart Porter Antiques and Craft Centre had opened it's doors for the first time back in November 2011 to the public after much hard work and long day's, the centre was officially opened earlier this year by Marco Pierre White who spent the whole day at the centre and taking a wonder around Stamford town centre. Stuart Porter had trained as an electrician, and has a well established lighting design business which has taken him all over the world, but he'd been interested in antiques since the age of 12. In his school holidays, he’d go to Wilfred’s auction house in Wellingborough to watch and learn. This was in the 1970s, when the only antiques programme on TV was Going for a Song. When he was 16, he spotted some interesting Japanese scrolls and asked his Dad to lend him £250 to buy them. He did - and resold them at Sothebys for £20,000. Antiques have been his hobby ever since. Stuart had a unit at St Martin’s Antiques Centre in Stamford, and had an ambition to open his own centre and once the prpoerty in Broad Street became available, he decided to open another antique centre in Stamford to also include a fantastic Tea Room and Courtyard, Stuart knew this would be ideal for Stamford and offering floor and cabinet rental space for up to 70 plus dealers offering a wide range of antiques and collectable's. Stuart commented " I’m so glad, the people in Stamford have been amazingly welcoming". We specialise in Georgian furniture, but we have small pieces of costume jewellery, pictures and china, there’s something for everyone, and prices start at £5. We have a free valuation surgery every Thursday. You can bring along antiques, not necessarily to sell, just to find out a bit more and gain some history on the item. We also buy gold and silver. |
